I remember first reading about the newest film in the Rocky series quite a while back, and really hadn’t given much thought to it since until I ran across a link to the trailer yesterday. Wow. I’m not even sure where to start.
Chris Rock, as I recall, had a bit a few years ago about the Rocky movies always making white folks feel like they could kick ass. In keeping with that tradition, I note with great amusement that the guy they’ve got Rocko beating up on in “Rocky Balboa” doesn’t look like any heavyweight brother I’ve heard of in recent memory. Remembering, too, that Sly’s about 5′9″ (or, in anagram form, “Very less tall on set”), this poor kid must have really had to slouch to make the grade.
Then, to top is off, they decided to call his character Mason “The Line” Dixon. This must have gotten hung up in postproduction or something. June 16th would have been the most logical day to release this since Juneteenth didn’t fall on a Friday this year. I guess no one told them…
